Why Dye Free?
Why we use only dye-free organic natural fibers.
Toys spend a lot of time in your pets' mouths. Toys are sucked on,
chewed on, and licked. You are concerned about your pets' food-- you
should also be concerned about what their toys are made of. We are!
The mouth of your cat or dog is a perfect place to absorb
chemicals. It is wet, warm, and acidic. It is filled with saliva; the
first level of digestion is done by saliva. The mouth is also lined
with mucosa, a super absorbent layer of cells.
Dye-free organic fibers are naturally toxin-free. Mother nature knows
best. Plastics when chewed up can
break into hormone
disrupting molecules.
Chemical dyes frequently
include toxic heavy metals such as chrome, copper and zinc, and
sometimes contain known or suspected carcinogens. Even natural dyes,
because of their poor colorfastness, can be accompanied by heavy
metals to fix the dyes. The only fibers we use in our toys have been
bred to produce lovely shades of soft green, brown, and beige. These
Colorgrown and Foxfiber cottons are also more resistant to pests and
more tolerant of drought, making them not only pet friendly but kinder
to the earth. For additional information visit

Organic dye-free fibers are naturally attractive to your pets.
Dogs and cats have a
strong sense of smell and are sensitive to chemicals. They love the
fresh softness of natural dye-free fibers. Dogs and cats see less
color than we do-so why buy them a bright orange or purple toy,
especially if it smells and tastes funny to them?

Organic dye-free fibers are kinder to the Earth
Cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world, often
leading to barren soil and poisoned water and air. Working with
nature rather than against nature, organically grown cotton is much
more sustainable. The care that goes into the production of organic
cotton shows in its soft and luxurious feel and in the health of the
fields which produce it.
Dyes impact the earth in many ways. Cotton is often bleached white
before it is dyed so that the color is clear and bright. Dioxin, a
carcinogen and hormone disrupter, is produced and released into the
environment during chlorine bleaching. Because cotton is naturally
resistant to dyes, noxious chemicals used in the dyeing process can
end up as waste in rivers and soil. Dye is biologically active
because it can cling to cells. Many pesticides and medical drugs are
technically dyes. Chemical dyes in our soil and water are decidedly not
earth friendly.
Being kind to the earth is good for us and our pets
The world is one big connected ball of energy. It is a blessing to
share our lives with our pets. This blessing is part of a big wheel
which spins and brings back to us what we give. Taking care of the
earth, while taking care of our pets brings this good energy back to
our homes. We can see this every day in the news and in our community.
Here at Purrfectplay, we see loving our pets as part of our larger
love for the Earth. It is that simple.
